This hotel is in a central location between Waikiki and downtown Honolulu and has become a favorite place for visitors with business at the beautiful new convention center a block away. Offering rooms with unobstructed views of the ocean, Waikiki or Diamond Head, the hotel boasts several good restaurants from a casual cafe to an elegant Japanese establishment. Okay, but dated

Convenient location. . . close to the mall, short walk or drive to Ala Moana Beach Park, close to the convention center. Rooms are okay, but dated and in need of upgrades. Staff is friendly and helpful.

Ala Moana Hotel

I recently got a bonus night in Honolulu from Continental Airlines for giving up my seat to someone who wanted to get back to the Mainland worse than I did. I got put up in the Ala Moana. I can't comment on the the price, because it was free, but it does appear to be acceptably within the posted price range. The entrance and lobby appear slightly nicer than the hall and rooms, but the rooms are ok too. The bathroom was very clean. I've slept on more comfortable beds before, but I've also slept on a lot worse. The staff are all very helpful and friendly. The restaurant was also a good place to eat; we ate all three meals there, and I have no complaints. The location is convenient to the mall and convention center. If you were looking to stay in this particular part of town, I'd recommend it.

Ala Moana--I would never recommend it

I reserved a room at this hotel for myself and 14 year old son. When I arrived there was no room available, after I became angry they let me have a room for only one night and was given one double bed for myself (mom) and fourteen year old son. I had to find other accomodation for the rest of the time. The pool was not open, and this had been one of the things that my son wanted. So needless to say I would not recommend to another.
