The beaches are fantastic, the weather is some of the greatest in america, as it never seems to be too hot or too cold. Plus the Gaslamp district is great fun at night. And if you're with your kids, make sure you take them to one of the awesome beaches (I personally enjoyed La jolla). My only complaint is that the restraunt prices can be a little high at times, depennding on where you go. However, even after eating out 4 times for lunc and 6 times for dinner, all of the restraunts i went to were clean and enjoyable. Overall, San Digo makes an awesome stay for spring/ summer break.

(Report Problem)Many underestimate great San Diego natural resources for recreation. This is especially true to that of diving. Diving in warm waters, I never thought that La Jolla Cove and San Diego can be a place to go for underwater experience. I dived in La Jolla Cove and saw most amazing underwater life with seals, giant sea bass, and other local fish. The experience was exciting and great. I need to admit that this experience would not be possible without services rendered by Scuba San Diego. Rod Watkins who runs the company and has over 35 years of diving behind his back, is the guy you want to go with for an underwater tour. He knows the place from inside out and will give you great instructions and safety tips. By Tatiana S.

(Report Problem)By Tatiana S., La Jolla, local I am eternally grateful to Scuba San Diego staff -- personally to Rod Watkins -- for awesome training in scuba diving and certification. Very professional service, an academic course in diving, and most beautiful diving spots in La Jolla Cove. I recommend highly to train with Rod as it is a way to become most prudent and safe diver which opens up many possibilities in scuba adventures all over the world.

(Report Problem)This review for Scuba San Diego in La Jolla Cove hopefully will help you avoid a very bad dive experience, save you some money, and help minimize your vacation disappointments. My wife and I have completed six dives under (plus certification dives) but consider ourselves beginners (although fully trained). Wewent on the La Jolla Kelp Forest dive with Scuba San Diego after being informed by a staff member on the phone that their guides are familiar with all experience levels including those who have never dived outside of certification. On 19 August 2005, we met our guide Stephan and another diver who had only four dives. Stephan was not a happy person: grumpy and condescending from the start; my overall impression was that he was not enthused about taking us out and that we were intruding on his morning. Our instructions included the all important “If you get separated, check around for seven seconds and if you don’t see anyone, surface and we’ll meet up.” Entering the water, visibility was low, but half the fun of diving is just being underwater. We followed the guide and the other diver but for some reason Stephan and the other diver surfaced twice; we stayed down the first time but surfaced the second because we were not certain about what was happening. After going out a fair bit, I turned to check on my wife, turned back and both the guide other diver were no longer in sight. A swell had kicked up the sand and they were gone in the couple of seconds it took to check on my dive buddy/wife. Following instructions, we did two stationary circles locate the guide and after failing, we surfaced as instructed. Around thirty seconds later the guide surfaced and the first words out of his mouth were, “All right guys, I really hate surfacing three times before we’re even out there, it’s unacceptable and it’s giving me a headache.” He even said that we were shortening the other diver’s time underwater. No “Are you all right?” No “What is wrong?” Just straight into criticizing us for following his instructions and blaming us for all three surfacings when this was the first that had been our responsibility. I told him we lost sight and surfaced as we were told and that this was the first time that he had surfaced because of us. His poor surface demeanor above surface was just as poor below the surface and that is a dangerous place to be with a guide whom you do not trust and our confidence in him was gone. After another exchange I had no qualms about surfacing to get away from Stephan so we signaled to him that we were returning, he gave the okay and we went back. On shore, I waited a further half hour to make sure the gear was not stolen. When Stephan returned he would not even look at me. I asked if it was okay to leave the gear there and response: “Yep, you guys okay?” I said “Yes, we’re fine” and left. When I did speak to Rod Watkins, who runs the company, he seemed overly focused on our concerns about the low visibility and kept stressing that visibility was beyond the ability of the Company to control. Obviously, I agreed with that and explained that our concerns were with how his guide handled the low visibility situation. A guide in this situation should recognized that it might be necessary to surface if part of the party becomes separated and not become angry at them for following his own instructions. Rod insisted that Stephan had four positive letters in his file this year (2005) alone, to which I responded ‘that may well be the case and maybe he just had a bad day.’ Rod’s rejoinder that ‘Maybe he did’ didn’t really help me at all. We paid our money to receive quality guiding, irrespective of the visibility.

(Report Problem)Simply, there is not another event I would rather go to, 5 stars isn't enough. There are so many wonderful things going on at the same time you almost feel like you want to be in multiplaces at the same time. I love the blues but I can't see all the bands I to because more than anything I'd rather zydeco dance. Tipntina's, the rockinbowl, the spirt of bo joc, they are all in San Diego for two days in May. Mothers day weekend to be exact. Then there is the food and if your dancing you can't eat easily. I have sat down in front of 33lbs of crawfish and never became full. I think you burn the same number of calories eating a crawfish as gain by eatting the meat. Then there is the corn and potatoes and trytip and othe foods so that you can't even taste everything you want too. At the same time your eating you can multitask and have the kids face painted while a parade goes by and your watching a cajun cooking class but your missing the dancing, shopping in the vendors booths for items from boots to zydeco t shirts or one of the many other treasures you will find in the vendors area. It is only $10 to get in which is less than $1 a band, and if you can't afford you can volunteer and they will feed you. The best about volunteering is meeting the people that run the event. There are many and they are all the best friends. They dance together and come new years you can be sure they will be at Peter's or in Balboa park dancing together. If you live in San Diego or anywhere for that matter Do NOT miss this event. Gator by the Bay is San Diego at its finest. It's a Mardi Gras that you can feel safe taking you kids too. I suggest you stay at the Sheraton and take advantage of the special room rates. The Sheraton pool is worth the trip alone. Did I mention how there is a friendly family spirts that grips you the moment you arrive and the good feeling last for days. Gator by the Bay grows ever year you should go before it get crowded. Do me a favor If you never have been go to www.gatorbythebay.com and check out the pictures and videos. If you have been there before and love the event as much as I do tell are your friends, I think my friends would like your friends and I wouldn't want any of them to miss Gator. If you want to volunter go to the web site. If you want to print and post a flyer go to the web site. Oh and since its in San Diego you can scuba in LaJolla Cove, Go to the beach in front of the Hotel Del where Mayrillyn Monroe used to go. You can Hike in the Torry Pines. See the Night Life at the night time dances or visit the gas lamp. You could even go camping in the desert or the moutains or any of the many camp grounds the area offers. You also should visit historic old town or catch a play, triple express is good if you can find tickets. Most of all bring your family and friends. It doesn't have to be that expensive if you shop around. www.gatorbythebay.com
