We really can't wait to go back.

five stars

York has it all: atmosphere, history, shopping, the Minster, excellent restaurants (bar the usual burger chains), and, unlike London and other 'tourist' cities, local people who are genuinely friendly. Wish we could afford to live there.

Great for: History/Culture, Nightlife

Chilled and Relaxed

five stars

I had a great time in York, the shopping is fantastic with alot of craft shops dotted around, mostly concentrated in the Shambles area. I especially liked the fact that there is a cheesemongers - pretty hard to come by even in Manchester. The Jorvik Centre was a severe let down. I paid £10for 15mins of bad entertainment. Recommend you give it a miss and go to the Dungeon instead, much more fun. Take a river cruise, especially with a loved one on the top deck with a hot drink - Bliss.

Great for: History/Culture

A slice of Yorkshire

five stars

Love all the history and friendly people eager to share it with you.It is a busy town, shopping is excellent from indiviual specialist shops, to the main high street, to the designer, all are represented. Museums, railways, exhibits, castles, dungeons, gardens, river cruises, wall walks, horse racing, medieaval architecture, abbeys. Too much to cram in a short break and thats just the day time.Wide choice of bars, pubs, restaurants and cafe's theatres and cinemas, and ghostwalks so you don't want to sleep!!!!
