Getting there
First-class road, rail, sea and air transportation - London is only one hour's flight away - ensures the city is not isolated.
Aberdeen Airport is at Dyce, 9.6km (6mi) northwest of the city centre. There are regular flights to numerous Scottish and English destinations, as well as flights to the Netherlands, Norway and Denmark. Bus 27 runs regularly from Union St to the airport.
Several trains leave daily from London's King's Cross station, although most services involve changing trains at Edinburgh. The trip takes 7.5hr.
Car ferries across to Orkney and Shetland are run by the Northlink Ferries and the terminal is not far from the train and bus stations in Guild St.
National Express runs direct buses from London (12hr) twice daily. Scottish Citylink runs direct services to Dundee (2hr), Perth (2.5hr), Edinburgh (3.25hr) and Glasgow (4.5hr). Stagecoach Bluebird is the main local bus operator.
Getting around
To get around Aberdeen there's a choice of hire cars and mountain bikes, taxis and buses. The main city bus tour operator is First Aberdeen. Mountain bikes can be rented from Alpine Bikes. For hire cars try Arnold Clark or 1car1 Car Hire. The two main taxi companies are ComCab and Rainbow Cab.
